Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Education office of School and Community Nutrition seeks a SCNP Workforce Development Specialist to provide workforce development strategies and serve as liaison with local school nutrition programs and other state agencies to increase qualified employment in the school and community nutrition programs. Will also provide technical expertise and assistance to local school food authorities and non-school sponsors to ensure that children receive high quality, nutritious meals, and to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations.
Specific duties include:
Assist in alignment of nutrition program job descriptions to increase skillset needed to align with apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeships programs.
Conduct outreach to local school nutrition programs to identify vacancies.
Liaison with workforce development partners to identify candidates for vacancies.
Assist in identification of skill building/training to prepare candidates to enter the nutrition program workforce. Conduct monitoring and evaluation of impact of programs towards goals.
Build and maintain relationships with internal partners, key state agencies and local school and community nutrition programs to ensure a collaborative approach to workforce development strategies.
Partner with workforce development programs to include various state agencies.
Coordinate program alignment between career and technical education programs, specifically in culinary arts and agriculture, with the school and community programs.
Identify opportunities for registered pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs to coordinate with school and community nutrition programs.
Represent the VDOE-SCNP Virginia Foods for Virginia Kids initiative with workforce development stakeholders.
Develop and maintain data and reporting for program objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to establish effective working relationships between state workforce programs and the local school and community nutrition programs.
Working knowledge of marketing concepts and promotional techniques.
Demonstrated ability to write for professional and public audiences and conduct training.
Knowledge of various software programs such as spreadsheet, word processing, and database management.
Use of the Internet for the purpose of employment outcomes.
A foundational understanding of workforce development principles.

Additional Considerations

Degree or coursework in related field.
Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation.
