Job Duties

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as a Pharmacy Policy Analyst. The selected competitive candidate will provide exceptional delivery of services to the agency’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer Division.
Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
This position is responsible for the creation, monitoring and/or evaluation of pharmaceutical-related policies, procedures and standards of care consistent with evidence-based, data-driven recommendations.
This position identifies opportunities for optimization of medication therapy to improve patient outcomes and create value for the Virginia Medicaid Program through: conducting pharmacy claims audits: analysis and interpretation of pharmacy and healthcare cost and utilization data; and using a working knowledge of federal and state regulations for the operation of a Medicaid Pharmacy Program.
This position requires a multi-disciplinary pharmacist who can collaborate with different Departments in the Agency and can work independently on special assignments as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Competitive candidates will meet these minimum qualifications:
This position requires a Pharmacist license in the state of Virginia and a degree in Pharmacy.
Considerable work-related experience creating standards and evaluating reports from Medicaid Managed Care to ensure adherence to contract requirements on medication coverage and formulary management.
Considerable work-related knowledge and experience of federal and state legislation and regulations governing the administration of the Medicaid pharmacy benefit including Fee-for-Service, Managed Care and limited benefit programs.
Considerable work-related experience auditing, validating, analyzing, interpreting pharmacy and healthcare utilization and cost administrative data (e.g., medical and pharmacy claims) to identify opportunities to support Population Health, Health Equity and Pharmacy Quality programs, initiative and interventions.
Considerable knowledge/experience of systems/programs/computer software.
Considerable level experience meeting deadlines.
Considerable level experience with internal and external stakeholders.
Considerable work-related knowledge and experience in the practice of pharmacy in the retail community, long term care and other semi-institutional settings such as group homes and detox programs.
Requires knowledge of 340B Drug Program and its impact on the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program.

Additional Considerations

Competitive candidates should meet these additional considerations:
Considerable experience with power point presentations and giving presentations.
Knowledge of pharmaceconomics.
