Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.
Provides program oversight by contacting volunteers, work unit staff, other agencies and organizations to recruit volunteers and inform work unit staff of services needed. In coordination with program and district leadership and community partners, determines appropriate service role and need for volunteers in planned events. Supervises the training, performance, scheduling and utilization of volunteers. Serves as a liaison between operations, administration and other staff and volunteers to assure optimum use of resources. Prepares reports and performs some general administrative tasks. May manage and monitor grants applications and disbursements/deliverables to assure sufficient funds and services are available to support program commitments. Represents the MRC at local and regional planning and coalition meetings.
The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health (VBDPH) is seeking a highly motivated employee to serve as our Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) Coordinator! Virginia Beach is the largest independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, population of over 450,000 residents. The Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) Coordinator is part of a multi-disciplinary team whose mission is to “protect the health and promote the wellbeing of all people in our community." The MRC Coordinator works as a member of our Emergency Preparedness team, working closely with community members & partners. The incumbent will work directly with MRC members (volunteers) and internal staff to connect volunteers to health district needs. This position may attend community events where MRC members are present to facilitate logistic needs and “on the task” training. Having the largest volunteer base in the state, VBDPH’s MRC Coordinator will engage current volunteers and actively identify new volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience in coordinating and managing volunteers and community services
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/public speaking skills
• Experience and ability to provide training to others
• Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
with a diverse constituency
• Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications; skilled in Internet, email and Microsoft Office
Additional Considerations
• Prior public health and/or outreach experience preferred
