Job Duties

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Housekeeping Worker to provide cleaning support to a residential school for students with disabilities. This is a full-time position with full state benefits. The work schedule is 6:00am – 2:30pm, Monday – Friday; however, the candidate may be asked to work an alternate schedule based on the needs of the school, including altered summer hours and for special events or projects.

Responsibilities include:
• Cleaning and sanitation
• Maintenance of supplies and equipment in facilities
• Floor care
• Trash removal and sanitation
• Identifying and reporting work area deficiencies and taking appropriate corrective action

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Working knowledge and experience in performing residential space cleaning
• Ability to understand safety, sanitation, and cleanliness needs
• Ability to give and receive instruction in verbal and in written form
• Proficiency level of “Novice” in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
• Current CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained in accordance with school policy
• Willingness to work alternate schedules as needed
• Working knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment preferred
• Working knowledge of classroom and office space cleaning tasks preferred
• Working knowledge of commercial (non-industrial) cleaning tasks preferred

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing
• Ability to tolerate temperature variations
• Ability to tolerate contact with cleaning products and solutions
