Job Description:
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College seeks an EMS Lead Instructor faculty member. In cooperation with the Program Director and Medical Director, the Lead Instructor will coordinate, teach, and facilitate student learning in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
This position will coordinate and manage the EMT programs at the Southwest Virginia Community College's Bluefield Center and also at Wytheville Community College. Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate, manage, and teach EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic in-person learning activities.
  • Schedule part-time instructors to ensure adequate coverage for all class and lab sessions for which they are responsible.
  • Ensure all grade reporting, lab performance documentation, and formal communication are completed.
  • Assist the program and medical director with curriculum development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure college and program accreditation standards are met.
This position reports to the Program Director and the Dean of Health Technologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Current certification or licensure as a paramedic
  • Experience in emergency medicine / prehospital care.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and teaching experience to deliver content, skills instruction, and remediation.
  • Proven leadership for course and instructor coordination
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A master’s or doctoral degree
  • Certification as a Virginia EMS Education Coordinator.
  • Teaching experience at the community college level or higher
