Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750 acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.
The Associate Director of Development reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and is responsible for providing general oversight and management of the development function and the Richard Bland College Foundation. In addition to managing a volunteer Board of Directors and traditional fund development activities (e.g., annual fund, alumni relations, major gifts, etc.), this position works collaboratively with other departments on grants development and the planning, promotion, and execution of all Foundation events. The Associate Director of Development also plans, coordinates, and assures implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the College. This position ensures compliance with the College Foundation’s philanthropic principles, policies, and procedures. This position appropriately represents the College to all stakeholders, including board members, donors, prospects, regulators, and fundraising volunteers.
In collaboration with the Director of Foundation Accounting (DFA), this position assists with the development, management, and oversight of budgets; recommends new or revised Foundation policies and procedures as necessary and appropriate; and ensures general management, awareness, compliance, and consistent application of policies and procedures as appropriate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides general oversight of all fund development activities.
o Plans and implements appropriate fundraising programs and initiatives.
o Establishes internal operating procedures for Development function and makes changes as needed to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness.
o Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising professionals.
o Appropriately represents the College and Foundation to donors, prospects, regulators, development committee(s) and fundraising volunteers.
o Develops an annual calendar to cover all crucial development issues in a timely manner.
o Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, and engaging web presence and utilizes digital fundraising platforms and techniques.
o Maintains an accurate, up-to-date donor management system and utilizes the system for fundraising.
o Builds the donor base and community partnerships to achieve Foundation mission and goals.
• Collaborates with the CDO, the President, and the Foundation Board to ensure effective Board operations.
o With input from the CDO and President, develops materials for Foundation Board and Committee meetings, e.g., agendas, minutes, and related documents, so that the board and committees can effectively fulfill their responsibilities.
o Keeps the CDO, President and DFA informed on the condition of the College’s fund development program and on all important factors influencing it.
o Promotes Board development and engagement, coordinates Board involvement in College activities and events as appropriate.
o Solicits the best thinking and involvement of each fundraising volunteer, and the Board as a whole, to give to the best of their ability.
• Provides high level administrative support to the CDO.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

 Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
 Considerable years of related experience are required.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and a flexible, adaptable work style.
 Considerable experience in business management and customer service and possesses the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
 Experience in donor management or similar software applications.
 Diplomacy, tact, and the ability to work with a variety of people, in a variety of situations are essential.
 Must be able to meet deadlines and manage interruptions and handle requests efficiently, and able to work evenings/weekends as needed.
 Experience and willingness to involve and manage volunteers in program development and delivery.
 Self-directed and able to work effectively within teams and independently to accomplish goals.
 Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College Foundation mission, vision, and strategic goals.
 Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at RBC.

Additional Considerations

 Master’s degree in business or related field.
 Previous business, customer service, and/or entrepreneurial experience.
 Considerable years of supervisory experience.
