The Department of Transportation is seeking a motivated and proactive Environmental Planner 1 to join our Engineering District 9 team! DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe Environmental Planner 1 supports the district environmental supervisor – national environmental policy act (NEPA) or environmental manager in ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations at all stages of project development. This includes coordinating the creation and review of environmental documents and evaluating the potential impacts of transportation projects on various environmental factors such as land forms, air quality, noise levels, water quality, ecological conditions, land use, recreational facilities, socio-economic resources, and cultural resources. It is also important to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
  • A Bachelor's degree in planning or environmental planning; and one year of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
  • A Master's degree in environmental planning; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
