Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.
We are seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Program Specialist I, while under supervision, will gain skills to perform professional level vocational rehabilitation functions such as vocational or technology assessments, rehabilitation technology, rehabilitation instruction, personal adjustment, job development, and job placement functions, public relations, Supported Employment and/or vocational evaluations; and performs other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides job placement and readiness services and partners with other professionals to ensure consumer's readiness for employment and to assist in obtaining and maintaining suitable competitive employment.
  • Provides training to consumers regarding acceptable work habits in a community based environment. Works closely with consumers to find job openings, complete applications, create resumes, conduct mock interviews, etc. Provides job retention and intervention services as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains collaborative relationships with employers and other entities to facilitate employment opportunities for OVR consumers. Provides information on reasonable accommodations, disability awareness, labor market information, Americans with Disabilities Act, and work experience opportunities.
  • Plans and conducts Vocational Rehabilitation programs and activities such as classes and other activities to increase consumer job search skills, soft skills, and improve community awareness of VR services.
  • Enters case documentation into Case Management System and other data bases as required.
  • Collaborates in conjunction with Career Center and others partners to plan, host and participate in job fairs and other community, school and employment events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, technology or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, orientation and mobility, social work, education, health services, business administration, human resource administration, workforce development, communications, sciences or a related field.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
