By joining our Georgetown section as a Transportation Engineering Assistant II in Scott County, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee basic transportation projects and specification for the Georgetown Section office.
Holders of the Transportation Engineering Assistant II position will complete tasks such as:
1. Serves as a quality assurance inspector for construction work such as laying pipe, bridge painting, concrete coring, earthwork, paving asphalt, and guardrail installation.
2. Preform basic quality assurance materials sampling and testing.
3. Completes daily inspection reports.
4. Reads engineering plans and specifications for construction, maintenance and repair of roadways and bridges.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
1. Learns to operate complex surveying equipment.
2. Learns how to inspect minor and small construction projects.
3. Experience inspecting highway maintenance and construction projects.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
1. Highway maintenance or construction experience
2. Computer skills
3. Multi-tasking and Organization skills
4. Attention to detail.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering-related experience, maintenance, construction, or experience on a structures crew.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Travel may be required. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction which require the following of safety procedures.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
