By joining our Department of Highways/Division of Maintenance/Bridge Preservation Branch as a/an Transportation Engineering Assistant I in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to perform beginning level technical tasks using data collection programs.
Holders of the Transportation Engineering Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
  • Oversees the development of projects for repair plans and contract ready proposals for bridge repairs and maintenance.
  • Develop prioritized lists of bridges in need of maintenance and repair by districts.
  • Acts as project manager to ensure the projects get completed as directed in the plans and proposal.
  • Collects, analyzes and evaluates bridge data in the field.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Become a project manager for bridge repairs, maintenance, and/or replacements.
  • Effective communication with district and central office personnel.
  • Bridge inspection experience.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Bridge inspection or construction experience.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Travel may be required. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
