Description
The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) Learning Team seeks an outgoing and collaborative colleague to join us in helping visitors engage with Kentucky’s history. The Museum Educator will join a creative and energetic team, where they will be given the opportunity to interact with students and public visitors to deliver educational content in an exciting way.
Students and general visitors travel from all over to visit our three museum sites—the Kentucky History Center and Museum, the Kentucky Old State Capitol, and the Kentucky Military History Museum—and learn about Kentucky’s past. The Museum Educator will guide school and other groups through our campus and provide a stimulating learning environment through inquiry and hands-on demonstrations.
Known for its dynamic project-based experiences, the KHS summer camp is a star program at the Kentucky History Center and Museums. Our camps are full of activities that spark a child’s curiosity in history and the role of the museum programs staff is to foster that interest. The Museum Educator will collaborate with staff to teach camps that help children explore a variety of topics as they make history come to life.
This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.
When done successfully, the work of the Museum Educator provides a positive experience for our visitors, inspiring them to want to come back for more.

  • Assist in daily operations for field trips at our three sites and facilitate dialogue with students around our KHS museum collections using inquiry-based methods.
