Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services to students, allowing them to access the curriculum and fully participate in the educational environment. Interpret between signing students and non-signing students as well as administration and staff, in all aspects of the educational environment.
  • Interpret between signing staff and teachers and oral, hard of hearing, or non-signing students, in all aspects of the educational environment.
  • Interpret between signing administration and non-signing administration, both on-campus and off-campus, for administrative meetings.
  • Prepare for demanding course material for the instructional setting, including those that require specific, technical terminology. Provide instructional staff with relevant information, making recommendations regarding students’ functional abilities, learning styles, and communication accommodations in the classroom.
  • Teach ASL classes to teachers, staff, and students. Coordinate the ASL program, as directed by the English Mastery Project.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a temporary license as an interpreter issued by the KENTUCKY BOARD OF INTERPRETERS FOR THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Interprets in a wide variety of settings and in situations. May require frequent overnight travel both in and out of state.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
