By joining our Grant County Unit as a Highway Technician Superintendent II, you'll perform highway maintenance and construction projects in roadway or roadside maintenance in Grant County.
Holders of this Job Title will complete tasks such as:
  • Overseeing highway maintenance projects and inspecting work.
  • Supervising employees and contract work in highway maintenance and repair.
  • Maintains records and reports (including electronic) on personnel, equipment, and supplies.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Experience in supervising employees and contract work in the highway maintenance and repair of roads.
  • Possess or obtain experience performing highway maintenance repairs, inspections of bridges, road striping, etc.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of employees and proper traffic control on job sites.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Operating heavy equipment.
  • Snow plowing and ice duties.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have twelve years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 2 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
