Description

Do you like working with your hands and are able to lift over 20 pounds? Do you have experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience? If you answered "Yes," then Western State Hospital (WSH) may be the place for you! With a 168-year history in the Hopkinsville community, WSH is a State acute-care, adult psychiatric facility that provides inpatient psychiatric evaluation/treatment for adults from 34 counties of KY who have severe mental illness. We are seeking two Facility Maintenance Workers to join our team.
A COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for these positions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate building maintenance and assist supervisor.
• Secure damages to buildings.
• Make carpentry repairs to buildings and equipment.
• Perform the duties associated with plumbing and electrical systems and equipment.
• Perform custodial duties in maintaining buildings.
• Weld and fabricate metal work related to building maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should have:

• Willingness to work as part of a team.
• Active learner.
• Good time management.
• Attention to detail.
• Able to lift over 20 pounds and up to 80 pounds.

Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Must follow safety procedures, such as utilization of eye and ear protection, when utilizing certain mechanical equipment.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
