Description
Located in Richmond, the Department of Criminal Justice Training is Kentucky’s state-of-the-art facility providing basic and advanced training. DOCJT attendees are immersed in developing essential skills, leadership, and knowledge through continually updated curriculum through more than 200 in-service classes covering approximately 90 course areas to all Law Enforcement and Telecommunications agencies within the Commonwealth.
The Department of Criminal Justice Training has an exciting opportunity! We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic thinker, with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for a results driven Director for the Training Operations Division.
As the Training Director, you will work in a team environment and be responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and conducting oversight of operations and personnel in the Training Division. Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals for the Training Division; and ensure that our training programs align with industry standards and best practices. Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Organizes, plans, and manages the operations of the Training Operations Division.
  • Serves on the department's executive leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans and policies.
  • Works closely with external stakeholders to ensure training needs are met.
  • Provides guidance to staff and managers within the Training Operations Division.
  • Evaluates and reports on the division's performance.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations, statutes, and organizational standards.
  • Represents the division and department in meetings and presentations.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the Administrative Division Director to allocate and manage resources.
  • Performs other duties as required. Law Enforcement Experience: A background in law enforcement or related fields is essential.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire a team.
  • Training Expertise: Familiarity with instructional design, adult learning principles, and training evaluation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ethical Standards: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all aspects of training.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of a certified police academy.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., KLEC, POST, FBI National Academy) are advantageous.
  • Well developed relationships with Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, Kentucky Sheriff’s Association, Kentucky League of Cities, and the Kentucky Association of Counties.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget awareness and the importance of protecting KLEFPF
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council operations
Additional / Supplemental Information:
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology.
  • Spend a major portion of time using a computer.
  • Work overtime or alternate work schedule.
  • Some travel required.
