Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.
We are seeking a Disabilities Assistance Specl/Driver to transport individuals with disabilities to locations where needed services are provided. Plans for and ensures any special transportation needs are provided. Performs administrative duties related to transport, and performs other duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport OVR consumers & personal belongings to/from CDPVTC which includes appointments, training facilities, and off-campus sites, and for other activities as required. Assist with loading/unloading personal items from state vehicles as needed. Locks down wheelchairs to transport consumers as needed.
  • Develop the consumer transport list, making confirmation of transportation needs and arrangements; schedules times and locations for consumer pickup/drop off; coordinate additional transportation as needed.
  • Pick up/deliver equipment & devices utilized as part of the CARAT project. Pick up supplies, prescriptions, and obtain maintenance supplies from vendors.
  • Check and maintain vehicles to ensure they are operating properly before scheduled trips (e.g. check fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.)
  • Implement the facilities Voc Behavioral Enhancement (VBE) program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Completion of 54 semester hours.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience working in direct contact with individuals with disabilities in an agency or facility that provides educational and/or rehabilitative services to individuals with disabilities OR two years of experience providing transportation for an agency or facility which serves individuals with disabilities, children or the elderly.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Two additional years of experience in one of the above fields will substitute for the required education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Frequent travel is required throughout the state. Must be able to assist individuals with severe disabilities and their belongings into and out of vehicles.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
