Description
Located in the beautiful mountains of Southeastern Kentucky, the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center (EKVC) is a 120 bed long-term care facility providing skilled nursing care and rehabilitation for Kentucky veterans.
EKVC is operated by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and was built for the sole purpose of taking care of Kentucky Veterans.
The Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center is looking for a self- motivated, energetic Chaplain who possesses the skills, knowledge, and desire to be a part of our team.
Expectations for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts religious services, pastoral visits, counseling, and religious education classes for institutionalized residents.
  • Communicates frequently with residents and family members to provide Veterans with their religious needs.
  • Coordinates and assists in planning and scheduling religious programs provided by community churches and/or religious organizations.
  • Addresses civic and religious groups to interpret the programs of institutions and mental health.
  • Conducts funerals and bereavement counseling at the request of resident’s immediate family.
  • Must be well spoken, professional, organized and have the ability to work independently.
The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet our commitment to serving Kentucky’s Veterans by fostering Independence, preserving Dignity, and providing Compassionate Care.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a theological or divinity school with a master's or doctorate degree in divinity, theology or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience as an ordained minister will substitute for the required education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must have certificate of ordination or denominational/ecclesiastical approval. The employee must provide the employing agency's appointing authority documentation of successful completion of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program within six (6) months of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work typically involves planning and conducting worship services in an institutional health care setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
