Description
The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and program to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and, engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.
DCBS seeks a Case Management Specialist I who is driven to succeed in helping people and advance family self- sufficiency. With professionalism and integrity, our agency offers aid to families to ensure services are provided to the families of the Commonwealth that are in need. The Case Management Specialist I is a skilled team member, providing a vital link between children and families to public assistance programs. The employee is expected to perform at the highest quality to ensure services to the vulnerable citizens. This is a demanding position that requires maturity and self-discipline.

The position you are applying has access to or use of federal tax information (FTI). Responsibilities and Duties include but not limited to:
  • Interview clients, in person and/or via phone, to gather information for applications for public assistance programs
  • Process verification provided by clients to determine eligibility for public assistance programs
  • Explain program requirements to clients, including what information is needed to process their case and program requirements to which they may be subject
  • Refer Kentucky Works Program participants to appropriate components and monitor attendance and progress in order to help the participant move toward self-sufficiency
  • Answer inquires from clients regarding general program rules as well as case-specific questions
  • Issue transportation and other supportive services to eligible participants
  • Work with community partners to identify appropriate components and communicate with them regarding common participants
  • Attend meetings with community partners
Preferred Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • Experience in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and Medicaid programs
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in social work, counseling, providing direct services to individuals and/or families (i.e., employment services, community action agencies) or experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, and/or administering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, Child Support, or other public assistance programs will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Performs duties in an office setting and will occasionally visit clients in their home.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
