Position Summary:

The Safety Manager will work to ensure compliance with all safety and environmental procedures to assist in the achievement of ensuring a safe work environment for all employees. Identify, eliminate and control hazardous conditions on a project that may lead to injury and/or property damage using job specific safety standards and best management practices.

Primary Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including, without limitation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Customer/Site Safety Manual, Company Safety Handbook, MSHA and DOT requirements and all other Safety and Health standards and instructions
  • Ensure all site managers comply with established rules and procedures
  • Assist in ensuring safety and health conditions, and good housekeeping in the workplace
  • Ensure the compliance of Company safety rules and safe practices by all company employees
  • Carry out risk assessments and prepare safety method statements, including control measures
  • Advise Corporate Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions
  • Assist, set up and conduct safety training and prepare training records
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections as needed, no less than on a weekly basis, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations, including as required by statute, for corrective or preventative measures to be presented to Corporate Safety Director for approval and follow-up to ensure corrective measures have been implemented
  • Conduct accident investigations, prepare investigation reports and recommend preventive measures to avoid recurrence and for use by Corporate Safety Director and Senior Management
  • Work with medical services personnel to provide and coordinate emergency and other medical services required for injured employees
  • Assist in handling of insurance claims
  • Arrange and organize safety promotion activities
  • Liaison with regulatory agencies, including state specific Department of Health requirements, as well as OSHA, MSHA and Department of Labor s Occupational Safety Managers and representatives
  • Assess new developments in the health and safety field with possible application to company s operations
  • Keep apprised of developments in local and state safety laws applicable to covered territory likely to affect the company
  • Exemplify, promote and foster our purpose of Committed to Excellence through our Core Values of Customers, Employees, Character and Mastery
  • All other duties as assigned and required

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to travel to Southwest branches to conduct training, inspect job sites, and/or investigate accidents. May include overnight visits.
  • Must have valid driver s license and have a safe driving record
  • OSHA instructor certification preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior communication skills; written and verbal
  • Ability to work on a team and build working relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Ability to perform all functions without supervision

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred
  • Three to five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
