Commonpoint Queens is Hiring a Youth Employment Case Manager (PT) Near Forest, NY

SYEP provides New York City youth with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models. The Vulnerable Youth service option is designed to provide SYEP opportunities to individuals between the ages of 14 to 24 who meet at least one of the following criteria to fall under the classification of “vulnerable youth” a) homeless or runaway youth; b) justice-involved youth; c) youth in or aging out of foster care; or d) youth in families who are receiving preventive services through NYC’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), to be documented by the contractor when determining eligibility. 

Youth & Adolescent Community Based Program:
Commonpoint Queens is looking for a well-qualified Case Manager for the Summer Youth Employment Program. The Case Manager serves as the primary person in guiding at-risk program participants through the emotional and social challenges that are involved in achieving summer employment. The Case Manager will be responsible for addressing the needs of participants and understanding barriers to ensure the successful completion of the SYEP program through counseling services, case management, crisis intervention, and referral services. 
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Case Manager will adhere to Commonpoint Queens’s framework of a holistic (social, emotional, physical, and cognitive) Human Development Model of a family-supported, strength-focused, and hope-engendering practice. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Case Manager will: 
  • Conduct assessments, provide counseling when needed, and provide supportive referrals to help youth complete their summer internship and successfully transition to other work or educational opportunities. 
  • Interact with participants to assess the areas in which they might need counseling or assistance. 
  • Establish and maintain external collaborations with case workers, ACS, and others for recruitment purposes 
  • Establish a rapport with all program participants. Assist them in identifying their educational and career goals; help them to formulate future plans. 
  • Provide safe and secure supervision and care to youth.
  • Work as part of a team to support positive and healthy youth development.
  • Manage conflict and youth behavior safely including using de-escalation and restraint techniques as necessary. 
  • Provide structure and engage youth in pro-social activities and behaviors. 
  • Support youth in their efforts to develop new social, academic, and vocational skills and interests. 
  • Receive valuable training on building healthy relationships with youth and crisis prevention and management 
  • Assist with data collection and tracking of program outcomes to support reporting. 
  • Provide information for outside support services or agencies to help students deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges. 
  • Work in a collaborative team, including participation in staff meetings, contractor meetings, and staff development in order to support student progress. 
  • Maintain case files and reports to track student problems and progress and to recognize patterns in behavior. 
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related counseling field required. Master's Degree Preferred. 
  • LMSW is Preferred, but not required. 
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 1 year's experience working with at-risk inner-city youth. 
  • Astute knowledge of performance-based contracting. 
  • Workshop implementation experience preferred. 

Hours:
Year round; Part-time,19-25 Hours/Week. 
Start Date: November 2023.
