Common Ground is Hiring a Supervisor, Victim Advocate Program Near Pontiac, MI

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Common Ground’s core purpose is helping people move from crisis to hope through a full continuum of crisis services, including victim services. The Victim Assistance Program team is located at the 24/7 Resource & Crisis Center and assists victims of all crimes, including human trafficking and domestic violence, with the emotional support, practical aid, and advocacy.

SUMMARY:
The Victim Assistance Program Supervisor is an at-will position that reports to the Chief Crisis Operations Officer. As the Victim Assistance Program (VAP) is grant funded, the Supervisor is responsible for compliance of the grant(s), including writing and submitting the grant(s), grant reporting, and all other program related activities associated with the grant. The Supervisor will lead a team of Victim Advocates. Additionally, the VAP Supervisor will be responsible for the training, coaching, and supervision of staff and volunteers, liaison with police departments, as well as community and agency groups, and coordination of program evaluation.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Victim Assistance:

  • Maintain a schedule of advocates to cover five (5) days per week
  • Provide after-hours “on-call” 24/7
  • Ensure staff utilize the agency’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) for all records of people served
  • Direct and supervise Victim Advocates & volunteers, ensuring adherence to Common Ground policies and procedures
  • Provide training and development, appraisal, and recognition to staff
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide discipline, as appropriate and per policy
  • Coordinate the collection of all statistical data, completion of contract compliance reporting and the implementation of the project evaluation as required by grant/contract
  • Ensure VAP services are available to people living in all eligible counties (Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee, Macomb, and outer-Wayne Counties)
  • Develop and conduct all relevant training for volunteers and employees
  • Approve financial requests for individuals served
  • Coordinate transportation for individuals served
  • Provide back up when advocates are on vacation and help with overflow when necessary
  • Work with the Mission Impact & Data Analysis (MIDA) team to monitor compliance, quality improvement goals and outcomes of the programs
  • Assure the completion of all necessary documents as required by accreditation and regulatory bodies, and contracts/grants pertinent to the program
  • Complete data entry, statistics, and reports as required
  • Work closely with the Finance department to ensure that the programs operate within budget
  • Comply with attendance and punctuality policies, as well as all other Common Ground policies and procedures


RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain positive liaison relationships with police departments and court systems
  • Maintain positive liaison relationships and active participation with community partners such as Michigan Legal Help, Bar Associations in the region, Michigan Abolitionist, Human Trafficking Task Force, and other community groups in the 8-county area
  • Coordinate or provide debriefing to employees who have been traumatized by through a work incident
  • Deliver community education and outreach presentations to promote the welfare of people served by Common Ground
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Community resources
  • Recovery orientation and trauma-informed care in behavioral healthcare

SKILL TO:

  • Type, enter data, file efficiently and operate office equipment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Work independently and apply critical thinking/decision making skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant software and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

ABILITY TO:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services, criminal justice, or legal fields
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in victim services or related field
  • Bi-lingual a plus (Spanish, Arabic, or American Sign Language)
  • Supervisory experience, preferred

Environmental Working Requirements:
Work is done in a recovery oriented and supportive clinical/crisis environment. Assignments may require work to be done on an individual basis or in teams with members at various staffing levels. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may subject staff to behavioral and medical events that could be physically hazardous.
Other Requirements:
The ability to work various shifts and hours including weekday and weekend hours; Some local travel may be required; All electronic or hard copy documents are complete, accurate, and signed prior to end of shift; Attitude and actions are aligned with the organizational mission and values; Promote a team environment; Focus on the strengths and needs of the person/families served; Complete Service Activity Logs in accordance with departmental standards; Adhere to established Quality Improvement Indicators; Participate in training and orientation of new staff and interns.
