We are looking for a collaborative and energetic organizer to join the Common Cause Ohio team. This is a key role supporting our work to grow and diversify our audience and volunteer base as we work to engage Ohioans in our fight to protect and strengthen democracy by fighting gerrymandering and ensuring access to the polls.
This role is at the intersection of community and democracy. You will work with various communities in southwest Ohio to expand our growing membership base through recruitment efforts and by engaging volunteers in signature collection and educating the public about gerrymandering and the Citizens Not Politicians Amendment. This role also focuses on our nonpartisan Election Protection programming. You will serve as a first point of contact for volunteers and members.
This role reports to the Executive Director of Common Cause Ohio and can be located in any of these counties within Southwest Ohio: Hamilton, Clermont, Warren, Butler, Montgomery, Greene; with the expectation to travel regularly to various in-state locations. This is a full-time, temporary role, starting on May 16th and ending on Friday, November 15th.
Responsibilities
Organize Fair Districts efforts in Southwest Ohio
· Supporting Fair Districts local leaders with organizing, educating, and tracking their volunteers
· Distributing, collecting and tracking Citizens Not Politicians petition booklets and campaign materials
· Assisting Fair Districts local leaders in organizing larger, cross-coalition events
· Coaching volunteers to maintain optimum accuracy in collection
· Training and supporting local leaders in their use of digital organizing tools like Mobilize
· Coordinating speaking engagements and securing campaign endorsements
Engage members in our Election Protection efforts
· Recruit volunteers for early voting, election day, and post-election activities
· Expand our membership through engaging and informative member events
· Develop and disseminate Election Protection-related educational resources and toolkits using traditional (print, tv, etc.) and digital communication platforms
· Create systems to manage Common Cause members and volunteers for early voting and election day, including sign-up and placement of volunteers, calling volunteers to engage or re-engage them, collecting data from volunteers, etc.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners and elected officials
· Represent Common Cause in various coalitions
· Collaborate with Boards of Elections across counties to discuss early voting and election day precincts
· Build relationships with key stakeholders and host community meetings to understand current barriers to voter participation
Support our anti-disinformation efforts on social media
· Host anti-disinformation trainings to expand Common Cause’s network of disinformation monitors
· Collaborate with national anti-disinformation staff to monitor state specific disinformation and build comprehensive disinformation report outs
· Share Election Protection educational materials to our social media pages to engage members and share accurate information about elections
