Job Summary

  • Performs diagnostic and CT imaging exams including but not limited to general, portables, OR/C-arm imaging, and fluoroscopy on outpatients, inpatients, and Emergency room patients.
  • Assists Radiologist with CT image guided invasive procedures.
  • Starts IVs, educates and observes patient pre, during, and post IV contrast injections.
  • Works together with radiology peers to cover schedule which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Confirms provider orders. Verifies correct patient name, date of birth, exam, site/side, and diagnosis is present prior to proceeding with exam.
  • Obtains relevant patient medical history and documents accordingly in EMR and PACS.
  • Preps patient for exam including but not limited to changing patient attire, explaining exam, and providing proper oral or other prep.
  • Assists radiologist with imaging guided invasive procedures and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Actively participates in patient experience and customer service initiatives including AIDET and no-pass zone.
  • Ensures cleanliness of room and department, restocks supplies and linens.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of the organization and the department.
  • Safely transports patients using wheelchairs, walkers, carts, slide boards and other means.
  • Utilizes proper imaging safety principals and techniques and ensures consistent and accurate results.
  • Maintains compliance with State and TJC standards.
  • Maintains professionalism with all peers and imaging customers including patients, other departments, providers, and the community.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment or other issues to appropriate staff, leadership, and service engineer.
  • May be assigned additional duties and shifts, and work in other modalities as deemed necessary to departmental function and within scope of practice.

Qualifications

Education: Diploma from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Licensure: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and licensed by the Indiana State Department of Health. ARRT CT certification preferred.
Experience: 1 year experience as a diagnostic radiographer preferred. 3 months clinical experience in CT preferred. Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy.
Training: Four to twelve weeks orientation. Training and proficiency in additional modality (C.T.) preferred. CPR training or current basic life support card.

Performance Requirements

Physical and Mental Effort: Moderate amount of lifting and positioning of equipment. Prolonged walking, sitting and standing. Must see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noise. Able to lift 25 lbs above head. Must be able to concentrate with constant interruption. Able to understandably communicate with a standard high school level vocabulary. Must be able to write legibly. Perform moderately difficult manipulative skills and hand- eye coordination skills. Must be able to move efficiently from one task to the next. Reasonable care taken when caring for patients with the knowledge that mistakes may have serious consequences for the patient.
Environment and working conditions: Works in bright and low lighted, heated, air-conditioned, ventilated environment. Some work in close, confined areas such as file room. Employee may be exposed to electrical, radiation, and bio hazards on a daily basis. Employee may be exposed to electromagnetic radiation as in CRTs. May come into contact with infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens. Safety precautions as described in the Radiology and Hospital safety manuals must be adhered to.
Special Demands: Reflects the mission, philosophy, core values, and customer service plan of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Knowledge of Radiographic procedures as well as procedures that require the use of contrast agents. Knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety. Open, accurate and positive communication , oral or written, on an individual or group basis. Must be able to handle multiple tasks / projects and meet deadlines. Must have interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients of all ages, Radiology staff, referring physicians, nursing and other hospital employees. Able to work under stressful conditions. May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, or on call. Assists Director and supervisor of Radiology as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, projects and covering when another employee is absent. Reports free time and demonstrates initiative to remain productive during slow periods. Work hard and be nice.
