Comal ISD is Hiring a Budget coordinator Near New, TX

Primary Purpose :

Provides professional assistance in the areas of budgeting and accounting, including monthly reporting under the direction of the Budget Director.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field is required.
  • TASBO Certification preferred.

Special Knowledge / Skills :

  • Microsoft Excel and Word proficient.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people at various levels.
  • Ability to assist with budgets, accounting, and communicate with district personnel.
  • Ability to analyze processes and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Knowledge of State / Federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of local policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff and campus budget managers.

Experience / Other Requirements :

  • Three years of professional accounting / budget experience is required.
  • Two years of experience in school business accounting or another governmental entity is preferred.
  • Other finance / business related experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

Budget

  • Follows and maintains a process that allows for the compilation and review of the various budgetary needs of campuses and departments.
  • Assists with the coordination and preparation of District budget materials for review by the District Leadership team and at monthly Board Meetings.
  • Prepares and evaluates monthly financial statements and submits them to the Budget Director.
  • Assists campuses / departments with questions / problems regarding budget matters.
  • Conducts budget trainings for principals, department managers and campus senior associates.
  • Ensures District’s accounting systems operate in accordance with the Financial Accountability System Resource Guide and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepares monthly account reconciliations as assigned.
  • Prepares journal entries as necessary.
  • Approves requisitions and budget transfers.
  • Works closely with all staff to facilitate the educational process by accurately and efficiently conducting school business.
  • Provides a professional attitude and atmosphere when communicating with staff and patrons.
  • Reviews current procedures with suggestions for increased efficiency and accuracy.

Other

  • Continually updates knowledge and skills to provide more productivity as the workload increases.
  • Continues updating skills through finance and accounting classes.
  • Monitors professional, legal, and regulatory information and disseminates to administration and staff.
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and serves as a role model for all District staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Assists with the supervision of the Accounting Specialists.

Working Conditions :

  • Ability to concentrate with frequent interruptions.
  • Maintains emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to lift moderate boxes up to 40 pounds.
  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Occasional District-wide and occasional State-wide travel.
