Job Summary
Columbus State University is currently accepting applications for a Student Development Coordinator, Student Leadership & Service in the Student Life & Development department. Reporting to the Director of the Student Life & Development (SLD), this position is responsible for the administration, coordination, development and direction of activities and events regarding leadership and service opportunities for the students of Columbus State University.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Student Leadership
  • Serve as the primary advisor for campus Student Leadership Programming
    • Plan and execute campus-wide annual Cougar Leadership Conference
    • Coordinate monthly Leadership Workshop Series and the Leadership Forum Student Simulcast
    • Recruit, train and advise a Student Leadership board
    • Provide workshops and training for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and advisors
    • Serve as the primary oversight for the continued development and facilitation of iLEAD in collaboration with Servant Leadership Program
    • Organize an annual Student Leadership Recognition Awards program
Student Service
  • Oversee Service functional areas and campus initiatives such as: Volunteer programs, Day of Service, MLK Day of Service, Alternative Spring Break, Volunteer Fairs, and Cougarthon.
    • Oversee planning and administration of annual campus-wide Day of Service, as well as manage other institutional service projects including collaboration with campus departments.
    • Oversee planning and administration of regular service day opportunities and the annual philanthropic event, Cougarthon, including training and oversight of the student executive committee.
    • Oversee Alternative Service Breaks (ASB), which includes promotion of student leadership development; planning and facilitation of workshops, trainings, or retreats; and experience with risk management as it relates to community service programming.
  • Maintain regular contact with non-profit service organizations to determine volunteer opportunities.
  • Inform students of opportunities via weekly newsletter and other online tools.
  • Provide individual volunteer referrals for local non- profits.
  • Collaborate across diverse stakeholders, including community partners and campus departments.
  • Maintain and collect impact data regarding service hours for annual reports and additional initiatives including the President's National Service Award and President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
Student Life & Development
  • Serve in a collaborative role to advise and execute campus-wide initiatives including WinterFest
  • Manage all administrative aspects of programs, including budgets, promotional efforts, programming, training, reporting, assessment, sponsorship and external funding sources, and supervision.
  • Set goals and develop strategies to enhance programs and services. Maintain program data collection and assessment in order to create processes for improvement.
  • Participate in department-sponsored activities. Represent the office at campus events and activities.
  • Serve on applicable committees.
  • Serve as an active collaborative partner with Director and Student Life & Development Coordinators to ensure efficient operation of the office.
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Policy, or other closely related field with at least 1-3 years of experience working in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life or volunteer programs
  • Experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds within higher education settings
  • Extensive experience initiating, planning, implementing, and evaluating episodic and ongoing programmatic efforts
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic planning and assessment methods and activities; ability to assess programs and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies
  • Ability to successfully guide student leaders through training, advising, educational opportunities, mentorship, and creativity
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events
  • Ability to compose effective correspondence
  • Ability to maintain complex administrative records and prepare appropriate reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with administrators,co-workers, students, and the general public
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of office management, office procedures, and systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent organization, communication and human relation's skills are essential
Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range for this position is $32,253 - $36,504 and includes full benefits.
