Description

$1000.00 recruiting incentive to be paid after 90 days of full-time employment in 3 monthly payments.

Pay rate is dependent upon number of years with valid CNA certificate.

Essential Functions

Provide personal aspects of care for patients with the goal of increasing their level of comfort and maintaining personal hygiene.

Works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, reporting any significant changes in the patients condition.

Duties may be adjusted at the discretion of the nurse based on the evaluation of the patients needs and the ability of the CNA.

The CNA is supervised by the Nurse Manager for personnel and administrative issues. Takes all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice.

Challenges in Position

12 hour shifts with 30-minute meal break on-site; weekend shifts required; holiday shifts required; work flexible work schedules.

Day or night shift assignment will be determined prior to applicant hire.

On feet many hours, moving rapidly, prioritizing, and coordinating patient care activities, under the guidance of the RN, to meet the needs of the patients.

High anxiety and emotions; dealing with grief, death and dying on a daily basis.

Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required

Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from college, technical school or equivalent training program, and minimum one year recent experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Vaccines

Valid CNA certification

Influenza vaccine during influenza season (October - March) required

CPR Certification required

Valid Drivers license preferred

Automobile Insurance per Columbus Hospice policy

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

All other routine or specialized office or company equipment.

Position Requirements (not all-inclusive)

Personal care, e.g., bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, and hair care.

Take blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations of the patient per plan of care, or under the direction of the nurse.

Transfer of patient, e.g., bed to chair, bed to commode, and chair / commode to bed.

Assist with ambulation and exercise of patient as ordered and so assigned.

Change patient bed linens.

Assist with feeding of patient.

Report changes in patient's condition to the Registered Nurse for follow through and appropriate intervention.

Follow individualized care plan for each patient.

Maintain records for patient charts on all care provided.

Is aware of emotional status of patient / family and demonstrates willingness to understand the emotional problems associated with the illness appropriately and professionally at all times.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Complete assigned duties such as restocking, cleaning, etc.

Other duties as assigned and appropriate for level of practice. (Example may be taught simple wound care).

Assist in maintaining clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, families, and other staff.

Participate in hospice training as required, to include 15 hours of CEUs / year and competency check per policy.

Attend and / or participate in one Memorial Service per year per policy.

Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice.

Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers.

Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job.

When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor.

Ensure job responsibilities are met, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work.

Assist with special projects, as requested.
