Columbus Consolidated Government is Hiring a Museum Support Specialist - G112 - Ma Rainey Home Near Georgia 31901, GA

  • Knowledge of the life and times of Gertrude “Ma” Rainey
  • Greets visitors and assists with information and answers questions.
  • Specialist is responsible for safely conducting tours and providing excellent customer service
  • Leading museum tours for large and small groups of all ages, as well as scheduling reservations for tours 
  • Interacting with a wide range of visitors, from children to adults
  • Utilize the techniques of dialogue and inquiry, role play and storytelling to present the life of Ma Rainey
  • Responsibilities include assisting with special events and programs, engaging visitors during tours, and ensuring a rewarding experience for all guests.
  • Provide information about the history of the museum and its collections to visitors
  • Assisting with the care of artifacts or specimens 
  • Answers the telephone; screens calls; provide information to callers
  • Performs administrative and clerical work including typing, filing, and data entry.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office administration.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making. 
  • Skill in multi-tasking while working with large groups.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including work related computer applications.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. 
  • Abilityto interact with people of all ages and backgrounds in a friendly and courteous manner.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee must occasionally lift light objects.

  • Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
  • Manual Dexterity – picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.
  • Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
  • Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
  • Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
  • Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
  • Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
  • Standing – for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.

  • Talking 2 – shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
