Columbus Consolidated Government is Hiring a FIRE/EMS INTERN - TEMPORARY (FULL TIME) Near Columbus, GA

This position is responsible for providing administrative support to Fire/EMS.

1. Data Management:
• Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data related to department operations, incidents, or community demographics.
• Create and maintain databases or spreadsheets to track information such as incident response times, training records, or equipment maintenance schedules.
• Help with data entry, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records.
2. Report Generation and Analysis: 
• Generate regular reports on departmental activities, including incident summaries, training progress, and budget expenditures. 
• Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, or opportunities for community outreach. 
• Prepare presentations or visualizations to communicate findings to department leadership or external stakeholders.
3. Community Outreach and Education: 
• Assist in planning and coordinating community events, safety workshops, or educational programs. 
• Create informational materials such as brochures, flyers, or presentations on fire safety, CPR, or disaster preparedness. 
• Coordinate with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to promote fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
4. Health and Safety Initiatives: 
• Support health and safety programs within the department, such as wellness initiatives, fitness challenges, or mental health awareness campaigns. 
• Help organize and facilitate health screenings, vaccinations, or other wellness events for department personnel. 
• Research best practices in firefighter health and safety and assist in implementing new policies or procedures.
5. Logistics and Inventory Management: 
• Assist in managing inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, ensuring adequate stock levels and timely replenishment. 
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with external vendors or department technicians. 
• Help with logistical support for department events, training sessions, or special projects.
6. Leadership Development: 
• Participate in leadership training sessions or workshops, developing skills in communication, teamwork, and decision-making. 
• Assist in organizing and facilitating leadership development programs for department personnel. 
• Shadow department leaders and observe their management techniques and strategies.
7. Administrative Support: 
• Provide general administrative support, including answering phones, managing email correspondence, and greeting visitors. 
• Assist in scheduling appointments, meetings, and training sessions for department personnel. 
• Help with filing, organizing, and maintaining records, both physical and digital.
8. Policy and Procedure Review: 
• Assist in reviewing and updating departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. 
• Conduct research to identify best practices and regulatory requirements relevant to department operations. 
• Help draft and distribute policy updates and ensure compliance among department personnel.
9. Emergency Preparedness Planning: 
• Support emergency preparedness planning efforts, including developing evacuation plans, shelter-in-place procedures, or continuity of operations plans. 
• Assist in conducting drills and exercises to test emergency response plans and evaluate their effectiveness. 
• Compile and distribute emergency preparedness resources for department personnel and the community.
10. Professional Development: 
• Take advantage of learning opportunities, training programs, and mentorship to develop skills and knowledge relevant to firefighting, EMS, or administrative roles. 
• Seek feedback from supervisors and colleagues to identify areas for improvement and set personal development goals.

Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age and have a high school diploma or GED, one to two years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must have reliable means of transportation.

  • Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word.
  • Talking 2 – shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
  • Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
  • Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.

The work is typically performed in an office, library, or computer room.
