Columbus City Schools is Hiring an Assistant Principal - Georgian Heights Elementary School Near Columbus, OH

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists in overseeing the successfuldelivery of academic instruction to the district’s students and supervisethe daily operations of assigned school. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

·Supervisesthe day-to-day activities of building staff. Duties include hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staffperformance.

·Assiststhe Principal oversee the delivery of academic instruction ensuring learningexperiences consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals ofthe building and district.

·Providesassistance and guidance to staff who are engaged in student instruction.

·Promotesimprovement of curriculum and instruction within the building.

·Monitorsstudent achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives ofthe building and district; initiates corrective action as necessary.

·Administersthe student behavior and discipline program; counsels and provides guidance tostudents regarding a variety of personal, academic and behavioral issues.

·Investigatesand addresses student-related issues and concerns; develops a plan of action toaddress problem(s).

·Workscooperatively with intervention assistance team, guidance counselors, studentsafety resource coordinator, and others to implement various initiatives toincrease academic success and ensure students are able to achieve theirappropriate grade level.

·Plans,coordinates and executes student activities and programs including studentrecognition, school dances, student of the month, and the like.

·Assistsin development of the master schedule and class scheduling of students.

·Monitorsschool building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with Federal,state and local health and safety standards.

·Managesthe transportation of students to/from school.

·Performsthe duties of Athletic Director/Coordinator responsible for administering theathletic program for the building.

·Createsand promotes a positive and cooperative atmosphere that encourages andmotivates students and staff; ensures rules are fairly and consistentlyadministered.

·Supportsimplementation of the building’s after school activities and events byattending activities/events and ensuring acceptable student behavior at allschool sanctioned/sponsored activities/events.

·Preparesor oversees completion of required documentation and reports.

·Promotespositive school-community relations by clearly communicating school messages toparents and members of the community; responding to parental and communityinquiries in a timely and courteous manner, and maintaining visibility withstudents, parents and the community.

·Develops and maintainsappropriate communication and relationships with all departments, and officialsof appropriate agencies.

·Resolves problems,situations or issues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous and respectfulmanner.

·Performsthe duties of Principal in that individual’s absence.

·Maintainscurrent knowledge of best practices, trends and new developments in middleschool curriculum, instruction and building administration. Recommends changesto operations and instructional strategies as necessary.

·Performsother duties as assigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

·Master’sdegree in Education or a related field.

·Five(5) or more years of related teaching and administrative experience in a K-12environment.

·ValidOhio Department of Education Administrator certificate or equivalent.

·Demonstratedknowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies relatedto assigned functions.

·Interpersonalskills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with alllevels of district staff, students, parents and the general public.

·Strong written andverbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills

·Abilityto handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner.

·Writtenand computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records,documents and reports.

·Analyticalability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concernsin a timely manner.

·Skills necessary to provideguidance, train and review the work of assigned staff.
