School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursingthat advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement andhealth of students. The school nurses facilitate positive studentresponses to normal development; promote health and safety, including a healthyenvironment; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide casemanagement services; and actively collaborate with others to build student andfamily capacity for adaptation, self-management, self- advocacy, and learning(NASN, 2010c). In order to provide quality care and manage legal risks, schoolnurses should know the various national and state laws and standards that applyto their practice. School nurses also must know their role and functionwithin the Columbus City School District and follow the school district’spolicies and procedures.
The mission of the Office of Health, Family and CommunityServices is to promote optimal wellness among the Columbus City Schoolsstudents and their communities by supporting their educational success andproviding leadership, education and support for the school nurses. Itsgoal is to remove non-academic barriers, related to physical, psychological,emotional and social health, in order to promote academic success.
Minimum Qualifications include:
Must meet Ohio Department of Education Pupil Support - SchoolNurse qualifications. Candidates need to be a Registered Nurse (RN) andhave completed a Bachelor degree, or possess a Valid OhioCertificate/Licensure for Pupil Support - School Nurse - Licensure Code -270800
