The Position: Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Lower School Technology and Makerspace Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2024.

Position Expectations (the individual selected to this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities):

  • Bring new and innovative ideas and concepts to the lower school makerspace
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to emerging technologies, curriculum design and pedagogies relevant to instructional technology and the impact current trends have on elementary-age students
  • Demonstrate the initiative to plan and partner with lower school colleagues to support interdisciplinary use of technology in meaningful and authentic ways
  • Create an inclusive and engaging makerspace environment that encourages curiosity, exploration and problem-solving
  • Participate in and support the growth of the school’s technology and STEAM initiatives
  • Contribute to the school community, creating extracurricular opportunities related to the field of expertise, participate in school events and activities, and lead initiatives related to technology education
  • Design and implement an innovative, interactive and evolving technology curriculum for grades 1-5 with a strong focus on computational thinking, STEAM, programming logic and digital citizenship
  • Teach a variety of technological skills while utilizing educational technology platforms, with proficiency in MacOS and Google Suite
  • Engage students and faculty in the use of makerspace tools such as 3D printers, laser-cutters, robotics, Legos and craft supplies
  • Plan lower school events that highlight the use of technology for both students and families

Qualifications (preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in education, technology or related field preferred
  • Three or more years of teaching experience as a technology or makerspace teacher in the lower school grades
  • Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the elementary level
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills

Physical Conditions (candidates must be able to manage the following conditions):

  • Classroom environment
  • Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
  • Repetitive motion (use of a keyboard)
  • Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.
  • A non-smoking campus
