JOB SUMMARY
This position monitors the discharge of industrial contributors into the City sanitary sewer system, prepares and maintains associated records and reports, performs related technical work as required. Inspects facilities regulated under the City’s Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP). The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Inspects and monitors discharges from all industrial contributors under the City’s Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) that discharge into the City’s sanitary sewer collection system operations for compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
• Conducts on-site analyses for permitted field parameters (including proper calibration and documentation) and collects samples for laboratory testing and prepares related reports;
• Assists in developing solutions for operational or technical problems associated with the environmental compliance of utility facilities;
• Maintains and updates IPP databases regularly;
• Assists with public education and outreach efforts;
• Researches new and changing guidance materials and regulations for application to City operations;
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment;
• Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from employees, citizens and others regarding risk management, insurance and safety matters;
• Attends training, meetings, seminars and conferences as appropriate to stay abreast of legislation and trends in risk management and employee safety programming;
• Performs other general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.; and
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
• Knowledge of basic mathematics to calculate and process invoices;
• Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner;
• Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology that relates to administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial skills; and
• Ability to make decisions that govern activities. The decisions impact how the unit provides services and support to internal and external customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is considered medium in nature and requires sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting operating office equipment exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: hearing, mental acuity, and visual acuity.

Work environment involves exposure to no known environmental hazards; and is relatively safe, secure and stable.
