PURPOSE
The Columbia Public School District is seeking a Custodial Supervisor. This position will be Monday – Friday 1:00PM – 9:30PM, with a 30 Minute Break.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Establishes, supervises and administers building custodial schedules and procedures for ongoing care and cleaning of the building and associated areas.
  • Inspects the building and adjacent areas at least daily for cleanliness; ensures that all sidewalks and entrances are free of ice and snow, as appropriate.
  • Ensures designated spaces, equipment, furniture, etc. in the building(s) are clean.
  • Ensures all building support systems (HVAC, Electrical, Water, etc.) are operating properly and reports issues to the building’s Maintenance Technician.
  • Coordinates moving of equipment and supplies within the building.
  • Maintains inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and cleaning equipment.
  • Keeps disposable custodial/maintenance items restocked and provide the Director of Custodial Services and/or designee with inventory usage data.
  • Works with the Building Principal and/or designee for building and school programming needs.
  • Establishes, supervises, and administers building custodial schedules and procedures for ongoing programming activities and special events; supervises and inspects set up and tear down services
  • Provides formal and on-the-job instructional training of assigned custodial staff.
  • Assists with the annual written Performance Appraisal for each assigned custodial staff member.
  • Submits Work Orders as needed; orders warehouse supplies and equipment.
  • Responds to custodial needs in schools that are short of custodial staff.
  • Supervises and/or assists annually with sealing and finishing all wood gym floors, stage floors and stairs in the district.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Director of Custodial Services
Supervises: Custodial Staff at assigned building
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: High School graduate, Valid Missouri driver’s license; Five (5) years previous experience in building custodial and maintenance, two (2) years previous supervisory experience with multi-member custodial team. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; Ability to direct the work of others; knowledge of the safe use of supplies and equipment; knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance procedures; ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.
Preferred: Post-secondary training; Certificated Master Custodian and/or equivalent; Experience working in a school environment

Other Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills; Present a positive image to staff, faculty, administrators, students, and community.
Physical Demands: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to move about, hear and speak; Must have close moderate and distance vision ability; Must be able to communicate in noisy environments such as construction sites and over machine noise; Must be able to stoop lift, dig, and push/raise objects; Must be able to exert between 20-50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and between 50-100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position; The person holding this position must be available for emergency clean up or maintenance of building or area(s) outside of regular work hours.
Conditions and Environment: The individual who occupies this position will regularly be required to work outside, occasionally in inclement weather including rain, snow and temperatures below freezing or in excess of 100 degrees; The position is exposed to bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; fumes and/or noxious odors; chemical cleaners/solvents, moving machinery; electrical shock; and body fluids/disease/pathogens.
