Columbia Independent School is Hiring a Music Teacher – Lower School Near Columbia, MO

Reports to: Lower School Director

Job Summary

CIS is a Junior Kindergarten (JK) to 12th Grade college preparatory independent school with a rich
history of whole-child education and a global perspective. The focus of the curriculum is to provide an
individualized educational experience for each student and to foster the pursuit of excellence and joy in
learning and living. Class sizes are intentionally small to facilitate high quality teaching and mentorship.
As a member of the Fine Arts Department and Lower School Division, the Lower School Music Teacher
focuses on students in JK – 4th grade. The focus of the music program is to build foundational skills and
a deep appreciation of music through vocal and instrumental instruction and performances. Additionally,
all CIS teachers support the social, emotional and character development of each student in their class.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach music (instrumental and choir) to students in grades JK- 4th grade
  • Update and create curriculum in conjunction with departmental goals
  • Create opportunities for students to perform in engaging and uplifting concerts
  • Collaborate with fine arts and performing arts faculty for consistent and meaningful cross
curricular activities within grades and divisions
  • Prepare progress reports and conduct conferences for students and parents each semester
  • Attend faculty, divisional, and in-service meetings as scheduled
  • Support the mission of the school through teaching, advising, and participating as a member of the

faculty

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public relations

activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years teaching experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated passion for working with children and an understanding of the developmental needs
of the age group
  • Highly skilled teacher with effective pedagogical and classroom management techniques
  • Effective written and oral communicator
  • Commitment to the success of every student
