Columbia Independent School is Hiring a Middle and Upper School PE Teacher Near Columbia, MO

Reports to: Middle and Upper School Director

Job Summary

CIS is a college-preparatory, independent school of 395 students JK-12. The focus of the
curriculum is to provide an individualized educational experience for each student. Class sizes are
intentionally small in order to facilitate high quality teaching and mentorship. Candidates should
have an interest in innovative teaching, a desire to build strong working relationships with
students, and a commitment to incorporating global perspectives into curriculum.This requires a
deep understanding of the principles of physical education, as well as a love for the subject that
can be transferred to students of various ages, abilities and interests. Working as a physical
education teacher at Columbia Independent School requires a wide variety of abilities but also
offers a very rewarding experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach three middle school and one upper school physical education classes
  • Serve as a coach or assistant coach for at least two sports
  • Promote positive coaching according to the Positive Coaching Alliance principles
  • Follow established curriculum rotation through various sports; update and create
curriculum in conjunction with departmental goals
  • Set-up and breakdown of equipment on a daily basis
  • Collaborate with other departments on cross-curricular connections

Other Duties

  • Take attendance on a daily basis
  • Collaborate with administration and staff to develop and promote wellness programs
related to physical education.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 10-12 students
  • Provide support for and chaperone middle or upper school functions (field trips, socials,
dances, etc.)
  • Attend professional development opportunities
  • Inventory PE/Athletic uniforms and supplies as needed
  • Serve as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public

relations activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Experience with and/or certification from the Positive Coaching Alliance preferred
  • Detail-oriented individual with excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated passion for working with students of all ages and an understanding of the
developmental needs of the age groups
  • Commitment to the success of every student
  • Proven collaborator and team member
