Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position will support Columbia College events and classes that require sound, video, and lighting, as well as support streaming services as necessary. As part of the IT team, the Media/Technology Specialist will work 15-20 hours per week in support of the Columbia College Artistic Technical Director and in support of IT services; and performs related duties as assigned. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees all AVL aspects of various events on campus.
  • Serves as coordinator and consultant for college sound systems and Audio/Visual equipment including portable sound systems, and livestream displays throughout campus.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, and updates all AVL equipment as needed and keeps the Technical Director, IT staff, and Chief Financial Officer informed on technical issues, necessary repairs, and upgrades relating to audio, lighting, screens, projectors, computers and software, and mobile sound system(s).
  • Assists in service flow, evaluation, and creative planning of services.
  • Provides secondary/backup services for the Artistic Technical Director as needed.
  • Sets up and strikes AV equipment for events and meetings such as: mixers, speakers, screens, microphones, projectors, displays and cameras, including the safe and orderly handling of cabling for all equipment being used, and that the cabling is hidden from view when possible.
  • During events, operates equipment such as: sound boards, lighting panels, video cameras, video switchers and ensure that all AV elements of each event are of excellent quality.
  • Assists in diagnosing and problem solving with all AV equipment and other issues under tight time constraints, including during live events.
  • Oversees events-related equipment, ensuring that appropriate equipment is operational and configured to optimal specifications.
  • Understands the various AV set-ups in multiple spaces including theatres, outdoor venues, conference spaces, and classrooms.
  • Adapts to changes in technology and research technical issues and replacement equipment.
  • Uses the college's event management software and AV calendar to schedule out necessary preparation and set-up for scheduled events.
  • Serves on-call for last minute events not on the calendar.
  • Assists team in consulting routinely and independently with faculty, staff, students, contractors, performance companies, and others regarding events, providing technical advice, helping with planning, and anticipating needs and support levels.
  • Provides individual instruction and support for set-ups.
  • Works with AV requests and IT ticketing systems to resolve issues as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associate’s degree in information technology, business, studio art or closely related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and updating AVL equipment preferred.
  • Must understand various AV set-ups in multiple spaces including theatres, outdoor venues, conference spaces, and classrooms.
  • Must have some experience working with AV requests and IT ticketing systems to resolve issues as required.
  • Must be flexibility in scheduling in order to meet the needs of the college.
  • Must have skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams, or related software programs.
  • Must be available to work 15-20 hours per week in support of the Columbia College Artistic Technical Director and in support of IT services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sedentary work that involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

Work environment risks exposure to no known environmental hazards.
