Applications Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Applications Specialist to play a critical leading role in the operations of our IT Customer Portfolio.

The Customer portfolio is embarking on a tremendous modernization phase and needs a highly skilled resource to be a technological leader while also leading the execution of projects using state of the art technologies.

Focused primarily on Oracle Utilities offerings, the Applications Specialist will be exposed to smart-grid energy / water, customer information systems, and big-data software platforms.

Key Areas of Focus :

  • Plan the design, programming, testing and installing of new or existing software or hardware
  • Liaise extensively with other technical disciplines to establish and implement requirements alongside resolution of live operational issues
  • Integrate applications with highest security adherence to existing and new platforms
  • Design, develop, and maintain multi-tiered client / server applications using state of the art technologies
  • Provide input on future technical directions for the organization
  • Research and evaluate system-related technologies and software
  • Provide technical advice to staff and other personnel
  • Assist management with requests for proposals, specifications, and purchase requests
  • Enhancing the scalability and performance of systems whilst delivering customer requirements quickly, reliably, and efficiently
  • Coordinate small projects or phases of larger projects

Who you are the ideal candidate will have extensive demonstrated and progressive experience in IT and the ability to lead and execute development efforts using state of the art technologies, plan implementations, and oversee planning for integrations with a variety of applications.

Broad experience in the Utilities industry is highly preferred. Must understand and have ability to advise on planned upgrades of systems with demonstrated knowledge on the functionality, technologies, and integrations of applications.

Technology domains and skills desired :

  • Strong Java or Groovy skills with solid experience writing production code
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts with the ability to write efficient SQL queries and optimize existing SQL queries
  • Experience with two or more of the following : Unix / Linux shell scripting, Java, Groovy, BPEL, Oracle Service Bus, PL / SQL, Python, SOAP / RESTful Web Services
  • Experience in web development using JavaScript, CSS, HTML, HTML5, and jQuery
  • Hands-on experience using Eclipse and Visual Studio IDE tools
  • Very proficient in Git SCM and GitHub developer platform
  • Significant experience working with Oracle Utilities Application Framework (OUAF)
  • Significant experience working in a Unix and Linux server environment
  • Sound problem solving skills with linear and logical troubleshooting

In addition, the ideal candidate will have :

  • Thorough understanding of the complete Software Development Lifecycle including experience gathering requirements and performing design and code reviews
  • Proven track record within a similar technical role working on the development of software applications
  • Oracle Utilities Customer To Meter (C2M) experience ideal; experience with Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing or Meter Data Management is also acceptable in lieu of C2M experience.
