STATEMENT OF DUTIES

General Statement Of Duties:
The Veterans Court Peer Mentor Coordinator serves as the peer mentor program manager and is responsible for the administrative work and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the assigned peer mentor program within a veterans court(s).

Distinguishing Factors:
The Veterans Court Peer Mentor Coordinator position is distinguished from other court classifications due to the responsibility of managing an ongoing program. Managing programs or projects includes extensive work planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, and may monitor the activities of up to 19.99 paid and volunteer peer mentors.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

This position will provide overall support to the Denver District Court Veterans Treatment Court, and development/management of the Peer Mentor Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In collaboration with the Veterans Treatment Court and other stakeholders, develops and implements a strategic plan for the peer mentor program that meets the long-term goals of the community and ensures program sustainability.
May serve as an active member of the veterans court team.
May write and manage grants; plan and prepare budgetary estimates and justifications.
In conjunction with court support staff, directs and maintains an accounting and auditing system with respect to grant funds.
Organizes and facilitates ongoing training for peer mentors. Ensures peer mentors follow established policies and procedures.
Builds and maintains cooperative relationships with community organizations and program stakeholders including, but not limited to, judicial district courts, district’s attorney’s office, Public Defenders office, county sheriff’s departments, law enforcement representative, probation department, veterans administration, and other community and alternate treatment providers to support peer mentors.
Attends and participates in conferences, meetings and committees as a veterans court peer mentor representative. Also attends pre-court staff meetings and court hearings as deemed appropriate.
Develops and implements quality assurance program for peer mentors.

May consult with veterans court judges and veterans court coordinator on a wide range of organizational and managerial issues including but not limited to veterans court efficiency, internal and external quality assurance.
Facilitates community presentations and education, develop community resources, and collect data for the peer mentor program as needed.
Ensures established policies and procedures of the court are carried out by peer mentors.
Acts as the liaison between the peer mentors, peer mentor program and the veterans court team.
Attends meetings and training as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONT.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
Has supervisory accountability for peer mentors. Duties may include scheduling of work, instructing in work methods, and reviewing work products.
Responsible for one’s own work product and may provide guidance, assistance, or mentorship to less knowledgeable or experienced coworkers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree with major course work preferably in the Social Sciences or related field and have three years criminal justice and/or substance use related programming, curriculum and program development experience. Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education. Prior United States Military service and/or experience working with Veterans, Service Members and their families preferred.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. This position is subject to varying and unpredictable situations; may handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously.
