Job Description
Position: Registered Nurse (RN)
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Clinical Services Officer
Location: Denver
Salary: $54,670
Position Summary: Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare, consumer safety, and quality outcomes. Assists with providing direct patient care for those disproportionately at risk for acquiring or living with HIV/HCV.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments
Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
Observe/record patient behavior and performs initial health screening and diagnostic exams
Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patient’s responses and conditions
Instruct individuals and families on health education and disease prevention, and after care
Medication administration, documentation, and reassessment
Change wound dressings and care for other treatment options
Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions when appropriate
Consult with supervisors and doctors to decide on the best treatment plan for patients
Coordinate and track outgoing/incoming referrals to specialty providers, as needed
Coordinate and track prior authorization requests related to referrals and medication
Assists with scheduling of patient appointments, referrals, updating of clinic records
Provides clinical support to clinical staff and other programs
Supports the direction and supervision of less skilled nursing/health care personnel
Enters patient information, treatment notes and medical history in multiple databases, daily
Supports the upkeep, tracking, monitoring and occasional reporting of patient activities
Demonstrates a high level of understanding of HIPAA and OSHA regulations
Act as a liaison between patient and all relevant professionals, programs and resources
Assessing and proactively taking on new "ad hoc" duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Two-year experience in a direct patient care setting preferred. Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/Process/Performance. Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR)-AHA-American Heart Association, Required
RN-Registered Nurse-DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies, Required
All certifications and licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
Education:
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
Software Utilized:
Experience working with basic office and database computer programs, including familiarity with Electronic Medical Records, Microsoft Office Suite, and the internet
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Must have an applicable understanding and experience with the harm reduction model, stages of change model, and motivational interviewing. Excellent communication, client relations and management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven organizational skills with high attention to detail. Ability to work well within the organizational structure. Must be willing to understand and practice the organization’s mission, vision and core values. Experience working with diverse populations including LGBTQIA populations.
Material and Equipment Directly Used:
Works with standard office equipment including computer work station, printers, copiers, scanners and fax machine. Works with word processing software, spreadsheet applications, and presentation software. Communicates with clients and vendors using the telephone, e-mail, the Internet, and fax.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
Works in an office environment and on a mobile van. Requires ability to lift up to 45 pounds of materials. Requires clear speaking ability and the ability to use a telephone for extended periods. Requires ability to view a computer screen (near acuity). Requires fingering agility for keyboarding and using a telephone and other office equipment.
