POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Part Time (32 hours bi-weekly): Midnights 10:00pm-6:30am
Contingent (16 hours/pay) :
AM: 6:00AM-2:30PM
PM: 2:00PM-10:30PM
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the coordination of residents’ care over a 24-hour period to maintain continuity of care. Also supervises on each shift the assigned nurse aides and medication technicians. Manages the Healthcare department and all non-exempt and contractual positions when the Director of Nursing is absent consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Society of Jesus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Other duties may be assigned)
1. Works in conjunction with the care coordinators and other interdisciplinary care team members and the resident to develop, implement and evaluate a care plan which respects the needs and choices of the resident. Participates in care conference and ensures that the care plan focuses on the holistic needs of the resident.
2. Assesses regularly the residents’ needs and health care status each shift. Conducts shift change report.
3. Supervises and works with nurse aides to develop their assessment and their communication and problem-solving skills. Responsible for supervising and overseeing medication administration of the medication technicians on their shift. Holds nurse aides and medication technicians accountable to company policies and professional conduct on the unit.
4. Supervises LPNs and is responsible for holding them accountable to company policies and professional conduct on the unit.
5. Reviews charts and other documentation from contractual staff, physicians and nurse aides and provides the necessary follow up.
6. Orders, administers and documents medication for skilled nursing residents. Updates physician orders in the electronic record. Administers all injections and narcotics in accordance with Colombiere Center’s employee health program.
7. Support and mentors nurse aides and medication technicians that are scheduled on their shift, emphasizing person-centered care. Reviews appraisal with the Director of Nursing before meeting with the individual employee.
8. Support and mentors LPNs that are scheduled on their shift, emphasizing person-centered care. Reviews appraisal with the Director of Nursing before meeting with the individual employee
9. Meets regularly with the Director of Nursing to share resident, department and personnel information. Assists in providing departmental planning and evaluation of processes. Assists the Director of Nursing to ensure that the Healthcare policies and procedures as well as the nursing protocols and standards of practice are followed.
10. Determines necessary levels of supplies and equipment and monitors their use.
11. Is responsible for supervising and overseeing medication administration of the medication technicians on their shift. If the Medication Technician calls in and there are no replacements for the position, the Charge Nurse will be responsible for passing all medication on their shift.
12. Administers all treatments and sterile or invasive nursing procedures including being responsible for administering TB tests to new employees. Responsible for maintaining TB test paperwork and verifying all employees complete the process.
13. Responsible for staffing call-ins received on their shift, including charge nurse call-ins and nurse aide call-ins. When Medication Technician calls in and there are no replacements for the position the Charge Nurse will be responsible for passing all medication on their shift.
14. Starts peripheral IV as ordered and Administers IV medications.
15. Establishes and adjusts Care Plans as necessary in conjunction with the Care Coordinator, DON, and Physician.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS [Education/Skills/Abilities]:
1. Possesses a Registered Nurse degree from an accredited nursing program.
2. Possesses a valid State of Michigan Registered Nurse license and follows the tenants of practice as determined by that license.
3. Possesses minimum one to three year’s experience in nursing management position with emphasis in long-term and acute care.
4. Possesses exceptional interpersonal and supervisory/management skills.
5. Knowledge of operation and utilization of health care equipment and supplies.
6. Ability to cooperate, work with and meet the needs of Jesuits who may be cognitively impaired, angry, confused, hostile/volatile or other emotional states as well as those who are critically or terminally ill.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Job requires bending, stooping occasionally and lifting up to 45 pounds frequently.
2. Frequently deals with stresses associated with a patient-care work environment.
3. May be available to work on-call evenings, weekends and holidays and/or to substitute during staffing shortages.
4. Able to adjust to numerous interruptions.
5. Varied work schedule; part-time and full-time.
