Collins Aerospace is looking for an Industrial Designer to help create the future of air travel. Integral to the Customer Experience & Design team (CXD), you are a highly creative problem solver who is driven to create desirable and differentiated passenger experiences and envision new ideas that inspire business growth, providing real value to our customers. Our team collaborates with a wide variety of business units within Collins Aerospace alongside cross-functional engineering and prototyping teams and together, we identify, create, design, develop and deliver compelling products and experiences for our worldwide customer base.

As an industrial designer with CXD, you will execute all phases of the ID process: from conducting research and identifying user needs to creating visionary products with sketches and CAD, visualized with hyper-realistic renderings and VR, develop physical mockups and work with other functions to industrialize design into real-world flying experiences.

This is a hybrid role (combination of onsite and remote work) that sits in Winston-Salem, NC. Weekly onsite presence is required.

May be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, analyze, recommend – you can identify and demonstrate a deep understanding of the needs and desires of our global client base and their passengers.

  • Understand and apply future trends in brand, design, technology, and materials.

  • Create and refine a wide variety of compelling designs through ideation, rapid sketching, sketch-renders, CAD, V-Ray, physical mockups, VR, etc.

  • Create 3D CAD models for product visualizations, development, and prototyping.

  • Concisely communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written mediums

  • Work closely with engineering and product category teams to develop and refine concepts for production.

  • Collaborate with sales, design, and engineering leadership to translate strategic business goals into relevant product solutions.

  • Manage your time and deliverables of multiple projects through various phases of design, development, and delivery.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience oran Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.

  • 2 years of professional experience within the design industry.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aviation and/or transportation industry experience is desired; consultancy experience is a plus.

  • Are a prolific creative visionary with the confidence to propose out-of-the-box thinking, yet one who understands and can navigate the limitations of real-world requirements.

  • Have experience with design, technology, and developing creative solutions.

  • Experience with aesthetics and form refinement who is comfortable in both conceptual sketches/illustrations and 3D CAD software.

  • Proficient in using CAD (Rhino 3D and/or Siemens NX), 3D/2D rendering (Vray), Adobe Creative Suite, Unreal Engine (VR), and MS Office, etc

  • Have a background in creative problem solving and developing successful designs.

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
