Position Overview:

The modification and upgrade (MAU) team is a division of Collins Aerospace responsible for incorporating changes to in-service aircraft interiors, including commercial seating, cabin attendant seating, galleys, etc. In doing so, we extend the life of Collins products on airplanes and improve airline and passenger satisfaction.

The Engineering Co-op – Certification will support the certification engineering team in reviewing engineering designs in the form of drawings, models, and bills of materials for compliance to FAA regulations. We show compliance through rational analysis methods, testing, and comparing designs to previously certified designs. In aircraft interiors we are typically concerned with the structural strength and flammability properties of designs, as well as protecting passengers from injury in emergency situations.

Primary Responsibilities:

The engineering co-op - certification is primarily responsible for supporting the certification engineering team in showing compliance of designs to FAA regulations, which includes the following activities:

  • Conduct testing, analysis, and design reviews to verify compliance with structural and flammability requirements.

  • Testing would include acceleration sleds, static pull tests, and Bunsen burner flammability tests.

  • Author compliance plans and reports to support FAA certification.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (senior certification engineers, project leads, FAA designees, Etc.)

  • Support continuous improvement activities and strategies to improve the efficiency of certification processes.

  • Participate as a team player across the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the information under this program/contract

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in engineering designs and analysis

  • Familiarity with structural systems, static and dynamic analysis, or material properties

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
