To accomplish the Clerk's Office core mission of serving the citizens of Collier County, the Finance Division is responsible for providing clear, concise, and transparent information regarding the revenue and spending of the County. The Division establishes and maintains internal controls to provide reasonable assurance regarding the safeguarding of county assets against loss from unauthorized use or disposition, while vetting the reliability of financial records. Reliable financial records are essential in the preparation of financial statements and to maintain accountability of county assets. The critical work of safeguarding tax-payers funds is performed by a group of highly skilled finance and accounting professionals.
The Accountant I in the Operations unit will perform professional and technical accounting functions in support of accounts payable, revenue and miscellaneous accounts receivable activities and operations associated with the Operations department. This position will perform essential work for the Finance Division such as:
  • Assists with the auditing and issuance of timely payables disbursements, the receipt and posting of revenue and miscellaneous accounts receivables, preparation of analytics, reconciliations and special projects while ensuring compliance with Florida statutes, County policies, generally accepted accounting principles and related grant agencies.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Operations Manager by reviewing and analyzing financial transactions and identifying technical issues that need to be addressed, interfacing and communicating with County departments, vendors, third parties and other Constitutional Officers.
  • Monitor status of work in progress and audits completed based on internal thresholds and confers and assists staff with complex/problem operational and board department situations and provides technical expertise.
  • Performs financial and accounting functions for the reconciliation and reporting for assigned areas; develops and amends various reports for internal and external distribution.
  • Performs financial reviews of operations; analyzes information for trends, financial and operational implications; prepares summaries and analyses of financial status, financial reconciliation, and reports related to operations.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or related field.
Substitution
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional relevant professional experience on a year for year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits.
