Collegiate Charter School of Lowell is Hiring a Guidance Counselor - High School Near Lowell, MA

Collegiate is seeking an experienced Guidance Counselor to work with our high school students. The Guidance Counselor will work with school leadership and in collaboration with the support staff team to implement a cohesive program (Grades 9-12) of school counseling including academic support, college and career planning, social-emotional learning, and short term mental health support

Collegiate Charter School of Lowell is a tuition-free public charter academy, providing an academically challenging program in a safe, structured environment. CCSL opened its doors in September 2013 to serve students in K-3. The school has expanded each school year and currently serves students in K-12 as of the 2022-23 school year.

CCSL will prepare all students for success in college, equip them with the ability and desire for lifelong learning, and strengthen their civic, ethical, and moral values. CCSL will maintain high standards of efficiency and accountability throughout its operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports student progress in course selection and college and career planning.
  • Ensure students receive accurate, comprehensive, and personalized guidance for academic success as well as postsecondary planning, including college admissions, scholarship and financial aid application process, and entrance into a competitive job market
  • Teach comprehensive guidance classes and provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group and/or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents/guardians.
  • Works collaboratively with and under the direction of the Guidance Department Head.
  • Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies on specific student academic and educational matters.
  • Displays a willingness to learn new strategies and unique interventions to assist students and families in their individual path through high school and beyond. 
  • Advance the district's equity efforts by addressing systemic inequities, eliminating predictable disparities, and ensuring students are engaged and challenged to achieve their fullest potential
  • Promote safe and supportive school environments through curriculum, programs, and staff training
  • Provides leadership for school-based solutions-orientated student success teams (SST) designed to identify and address student learning needs
  • Teach comprehensive guidance classes and provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group and/or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents/guardians.
  • Provide short term counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refer students to behavioral health specialists as needed.
  • Support Transitions Program for students reentering after prolonged school absence
  • Provide family engagement and education that promotes healthy and positive social emotional and behavioral development for all youth
  • Provide community outreach and form partnerships with outside agencies that provide support and resources for families, students, and the school community
  • Maintains effective communication with the broader school community including informational sessions and ongoing correspondence with community. We are a school that works together as a team. Successful candidates must be willing to work collaboratively and maintain a flexible demeanor in the role.
  • Participates as an active and collaborative member of school and district leadership teams

Requirements:

  • Massachusetts Licensure in school counseling required.
  • Master's degree in school counseling, education required;
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in managing schedules and post high school database programs ie Naviance, Power School or other Student Information Database.
  • Experience with Naviance preferred.
  • Experience supporting students in their academic progress and college planning required;
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in managing schedules and post high school database programs ie Naviance, Power School or other Student Information Database.
  • Demonstrated commitment to celebrating diversity, pursuing equity, and promoting integration;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social and emotional learning and mental health research and curriculum.
