General Description
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Transfer and Career Center Coordinator improves student success by working with students to develop an academic engagement plan, set goals, and coordinate resources to achieve their objectives within and beyond the classroom environment. The Transfer & Career Center Coordinator will work with Transfer and Career personnel to develop and implement strategies that enhance job search assistance, academic, career and life planning efforts, career coaching, career exploration, and transfer processes for students.
This position is assigned to the Visalia College Campus, M- F 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with the need to work some evenings past 4:45pm and some weekends. Full-Time 12-months. Initial placement is at $69,451 per year
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Transfer & Career Center Coordinator will provide specialized support to the Transfer and Career Center to help develop and implement programs, assist with the planning and coordinating program services relating to transfer/career activities and services that promote student development and success and use technology to facilitate the employer-student connection. The Transfer and Career Center Coordinator will work with various campus departments, such as Student Success, Counseling, Welcome Center, Access and Ability Center, Work Study, and Work Experience Office, to incorporate transfer and career-related activities.
The Transfer & Career Center Coordinator is expected to engage with students in workshops, the learning laboratory, and/or other campus locations. They will engage with employers and attend professional meetings, associations, events, tours, club trips, etc. on campus and off campus with the intent of connecting students and employers. Occasional travel between campuses will be required.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Transfer & Career Center Coordinator:
  • Meet with students one-on-one or in group settings about strategies for their job search including self-assessment, such as the EUREKA, Career Coach, What Can I Do With This Major as well as referral to Career Counselor for in depth assessments such as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality inventory and Strong Interest Inventory.
  • Work with Career Counselor in process management and development of pathways for career/major exploration, decision-making, job search skills (resume & cover letter writing, interviewing skills, negotiation skills, etc.) and self-directed job search strategies.
  • Collaborate with Career Counselor in developing and conducting workshops, seminars or classes relevant to self-assessment, job search skills and job search strategies.
  • Support Career Counselor in following up with students and develop reports to appropriate staff/faculty members; specifically in cooperation with Career Counselor & COUN 100 faculty for coordination of scheduling, reporting and processing for MBTI each semester.
  • Manage website for Transfer Services and Career Services with support and input from Transfer/Career Counselors.
  • Support Transfer Counselor in preparing and assisting students with transfer services, such as transfer workshops and applications.
  • Collaborate with Transfer Counselor to develop and implement activities and services pertaining to transfer, including Transfer Day event, coordinating campus tours of four-year institutions, transfer application workshops, and campus four- year representations.
  • Coordinate with public and private university representatives to provide ongoing transfer information and services.
  • Collaborate, implement, and assist with the completion of Program Review.
  • Work with departments to develop and improve services that complement current departmental activities and goals.
  • Provide professional support and referrals for students with personal, social, and/or academic concerns that impair student's learning and/or success.
  • Creates and maintains a variety of standard office and specialized records and files; develops and maintains marketing materials, brochures and flyers; maintains spreadsheets and databases; generates sensitive and complex reports, documents and personnel documentation using advanced word processing; maintains and ensures the confidentiality of all student documents and records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and established District policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings, conferences, and seminars to support the Transfer and Career Center.
  • Work with and solicit input from departments, faculty, staff, alumni to develop new leads for part-time and full-time positions.
  • Work with COS departments to facilitate hiring for on-campus student positions.
  • Represent the College at functions as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist with other student service activities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Any combination equivalent to:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of professional experience in education or the equivalent.
Desirable Qualification:
  • Experience in student services, case management, career services, as well as a background or experience with transfer services is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and cross-organizational collaboration.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience working with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.

  • Principles and practices of planning, organization and coordination of community college Transfer & Career center programs.
  • Common student needs, issues and concerns regarding transfer and career opportunities.
  • Principles, methods and practices applicable to the design and implementation of public relations, community outreach, employer outreach, and marketing programs.
  • Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and California Education Code and Administrative Code provisions related to community college admissions, registration and recordkeeping.
  • Principles and practices of strong communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Various digital technologies used for career and transfer planning.
  • Banner, MS Suite to include Word and Excel
Ability to:
  • Provide information and guidance to students on career planning, college entrance, job placement and other career-related topics.
  • Communicate with employers and community agencies regarding internship and job placement opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff to provide advice and counsel in developing solutions to complex issues.
  • Organize, set priorities and exercise expert, independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in implementing appropriate procedures and controls.
  • Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive correspondence, reports, studies and other written materials.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Represent the District effectively in dealings with students, community groups and the public.
  • Make presentations and present proposals and recommendations clearly, logically and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Operate a computer and use standard business software.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work.
