General Description
Under the direction of the appropriate Dean, the Student Support Services Specialist will perform a variety of specialized duties related to the planning and the implementation of the assessment, orientation and matriculation programs in support of the student success with an emphasis in Welcome Center. This will include but is not limited to planning, and implementation of program activities and providing students with related information. Funded by Student Equity to represent disproportionately impacted Groups (DIG) Category funded.
This position will have an emphasis in Welcome Center and will be supervised by both the Provost, Hanford Campus and the Director, Welcome Center & Early College Partnerships.
The working hours will be:
Monday - Thursday 8:45am - 5:45pm
Friday - 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.Full-Time 12-months. Initial placement is at $55,723 non-negotiable.

Job Duties
Job duties of the Student Support Services Specialist include:
  • Prepare and edit a wide variety of materials such as correspondence, reports, forms, applications, flyers, brochures, memoranda and other documents.
  • Plan, organize and deliver on and off campus activities and programs to provide information and assistance to students regarding academic and financial support services.
  • Provide and maintain accurate information about educational and student support programs of the college; distribute information to students and public via webpage, newsletters, flyers, brochures, posters, presentations, etc.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver presentations; Information Orientation Sessions and Workshops to assist students in applying to college and achieving their educational goals.
  • Maintain regular contact with students to address and assist with problem solving; update student files as necessary.
  • Prepare and disseminate information, applications, and other program related documentation/items to students.
  • Establish professional contacts with colleagues at high schools, community service agencies, and other educational agencies to assist with student success, enrollment, and retention.
  • Organize and conduct campus tours and activities for students and community groups.
  • Attend staff meetings, conferences, and seminars to maintain current knowledge regarding program eligibility requirements, regulations and District policies.
  • Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the College community and appropriate staff to develop and implement orientation strategies required for matriculation.
  • Maintain online orientation information.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with staff and District feeder high schools to implement the goals of the Student Support Services Program.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

Any combination equivalent to:
  • Completion of two years of college-level coursework and two years of increasingly responsible business/office experience.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California's driver's license
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias Community College District.

Knowledge and Abilities
The hiring committee is seeking evidence of the following:
Knowledge of:
  • Federal and state guidelines/regulations, policies and procedures as related to orientation, and matriculation
  • College admission procedures.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet and database related software.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
  • Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Public relations and student support techniques
  • Interpersonal skill using tact, patience and courtesy
Ability to:
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
  • Work confidentially and independently with discretion.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with department staff and other COS personnel.
  • Meet concurrent deadlines.
