General Description
Under the Direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Director will recruit, outreach, and in-reach specifically to the current disproportionately impacted groups statewide, which include, Native American/Alaskan Native, Black/African American and Latinx students. Specifically, male, first-time and returning students, will be the primary focus of this role. The Director will create a high impact, high touch program ensuring a student's successful pathway through recruitment and matriculation to transfer and completion.
This is a three-year pilot program stemming from the California Community College Chancellor's Office one-time student retention & enrollment outreach allocation.
Job Duties
  • Serve as liaison to community organizations, tribes, and service clubs whose focus is upon disproportionately impacted groups
  • Actively recruit Native American/Alaskan Native, Black/African American and Latinx students and assist them through the matriculation process while connecting these students to student support services such as the Student Success Program and co-curricular groups such as Amend
  • Calendar, organize, recruit students, and attend university visits to Historically Black Universities
  • Calendar, organize, recruit students, and attend university visits to both the California State Universities and University of California
  • Connect students to the support services such as, tutorial, Health Center, Basic Needs, and clubs to ensure holistic support and campus connectivity
  • Prepare program plan with tracking and reporting mechanisms
  • Track, case manage, and report outcomes of these designated student populations
  • Coordinate with the Director of the Welcome Center & Early College Partnerships to recruit high school students for dual and concurrent enrollment
  • Participate/lead designated activities in the Student Equity Plan
  • Coordinate College of the Sequoias campus tours, guest speakers, and transfer readiness activities
  • Address the technology needs of this student population
  • Develop and provide a customized new student orientation
  • Ensure that FAFSA and scholarship applications are completed in a timely manner giving the student the best opportunity for success
  • Partner closely with all of student support services to ensure a warm introduction to students needing Individualized or comprehensive support
  • Inform district constituents of best practices for equitable recruitment, retention, and transfer for specific students groups
Responsibilities
  • Continuously improve upon relationships with district employees and community partners to provide networks of support for this student population
  • Identify opportunities for program expansion and improvement
  • Collect data needed to determine effectiveness of the duties assigned
  • Create, review, and submit required reports
  • Integrate and align program planning with the College of the Sequoias mission, strategic plan, and Equity Plan
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff as needed
  • Work with the Public information Office and marketing with recruitment assistance
  • Collaborate with Director, Welcome Center to enhance targeted outreach and recruitment
  • Create and deliver presentations to students, faculty, and other constituents to ensure program awareness and goals
  • Understand Management Handbook, appropriate board policies, and collective bargaining agreements
  • Where applicable, participate in or complete Program Review, Strategic Planning, and Equity Plan work
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related area and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
Desirable Experience
Experience working with diverse student populations utilizing best practices which produce successful completion and transfer outcomes is desirable.
Knowledge of:
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Needs, interests and concerns of disproportionately impacted student communities.
  • District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
  • Outreach methods and techniques.
  • Basic budgetary principles and practices related to grant administration.
  • Principles of supervising, training, evaluating and providing work direction to assigned personnel.
  • Record keeping techniques.
  • Methods and procedures related to coordination of student groups and activities.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Operation of computer and assigned software.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Ability to:
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, and disability backgrounds of community college students and staff.
  • Work with and provide guidance to disproportionately impacted student communities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators and external community partnerships.
  • Communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
  • Travel within the state and out of state to visit college campuses.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs related to assigned area.
  • Prepare and administer grant budget
  • Work on multi-projects; meet deadlines.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate the work of others.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification.
