General Description
Under the direction of the Director, Training Resource Center (TRC) and the Dean, Career Technical Education (CTE), the Director of Apprenticeships manages the planning, operation and sustainability of registered traditional and non-traditional apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs. The Director also supports the workforce development training activities of the Training Resource Center.
The Director of Apprenticeship Programs pursues and manages workforce development grants and develops partnerships with business, industry, labor, and government for the purpose of promoting and implementing pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship programs and related workforce development training. This position is categorically funded.
Initial salary placement for this position will be $109,324.02

Job Duties
Representative Duties:
  • Manage the implementation of strategic plans and initiatives in support and development of apprenticeship programs.
  • Ensure apprenticeship programs comply with state and federal regulations, college policies, apprenticeship requirements, and specific industry requirements.
  • Assess employer's workforce needs and interests, providing assistance and direction, to connect employers to college workforce development programs, services and staff.
  • Collaborate with union, non-union, college district, community, state, county, regional, and industry groups for ongoing development, implementation and sustainability of apprenticeship and workforce development programs.
  • Serve as an advisor and/or administrator for registered apprenticeship programs in which College of the Sequoias acts as the designated Local Education Agency, to include the creation of memorandums of understanding (MOUs)
  • Pursue and manage federal, state, and private workforce development grants relevant to the position, including completion and submission of reports detailing compliance with grant requirements.
  • Prepare and administer grant budgets to maximize revenue and track expenditures; prepare budget reports and summaries of assigned grant; coordinate grant payments as timely as necessary to minimize account balances.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to implement established grant work plans to ensure grants objectives and timelines are met.
  • Organize student paperwork processing, records maintenance, MOU's, instructor support, invoicing and data collection and reporting at the district, regional, state, and federal levels.
  • Communicate with instructional deans and program directors for the scheduling of courses, and advising program administrators, committee members, staff/faculty and students of apprenticeship program responsibilities.
  • Promote collaboration among stakeholders by making presentations, organizing or participating in events, conducting or hosting meetings or workshops, providing training and engaging in strategic planning or work groups regarding apprenticeship and workforce development training.
  • Recommend strategies to the college regarding the implementation of outreach and marketing to industry, students, and the public for apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, and workforce development training programs.
  • Contribute to the compilation of online apprenticeship outreach efforts and relevant web resources.
  • Communicate, present, and respond to questions about the apprenticeship programs from faculty, staff, students, the Board, media, and the public
  • Serve on college committees as requested.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Maintain a respectful and supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
  • Assume other duties normally associated with management.
  • Perform other CTE and TRC duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
Any combination equivalent to:
  • A Master's degree in areas related to the position from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in education or industry or management or related field.
  • A sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in apprenticeship program development, implementation and management.
  • Experience in an industry sector with a high demand for skilled labor.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with Career Technical Education programs.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with workforce development training.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

    • Provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff.
