Saint John's Prep School invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Director of Global Studies and Spanish Teacher to begin August 2024.
Since its founding in 1857, Saint John’s Preparatory School has provided exceptional education in the Catholic Benedictine tradition. Prep has continuously dedicated itself to both educational development and personal formation, seeking to prepare our students for lives of purpose, service, and achievement.
The Director of Global Studies and Spanish teacher works with students to develop world views and relationships through meaningful cultural experiences designed to broaden perspectives and understanding. Under the supervision of the Principal and Assistant Head of School, this position is responsible for teaching in a dynamic upper school program where students can realize their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Saint John’s Preparatory policies.
1. Plan, coordinate, and organize opportunities for global and cultural learning for students and staff.
2. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with our educational partners in Austria, Guatemala, and Japan.
3. Develop new collaborative relationships with potential partners to develop new programs and experiences for our students.
4. Build and develop relationships with all students and staff through frequent interaction, office hours, conversation, etc.
5. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
6. Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks and online resources.
7. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
8. Evaluate and grade students’ class work, assignments, projects, and papers in a timely manner.
9. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records on a daily basis.
10. Act as an advisor for student organizations.
11. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
12. Keep abreast of developments in chosen field by reading current literature, participating in conferences, and other professional development.
13. Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
14. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
15. Participate in campus and community events.
16. Perform administrative duties such as serving as department head or division chair when invited.
17. Perform other duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher with certification in area of Spanish instruction, including a teaching license.

1. Strong personal computing skills in word processing; database creation and maintenance; spreadsheet design and manipulation; and email.
2. Strong organizational and communication skills.
3. Strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow through on projects and tasks.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
6. Ability to work as a part of a team.
7. Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
8. Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve the school’s goals.
9. Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
10. Help create and foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
