College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University, Order of Saint Benedict is Hiring a CNA/LPN On-call Provisional Near MN, MN

Saint John's Abbey invites applications for the on-call positions of CNA and LPN in the Abbey Retirement Center.
 
These positions are responsible for providing personal care and designated health-related services designed to maintain the monastic resident's physical and emotional well-being.
 
Days, evenings, nights and weekend shifts available.
 CNA Duties:
1. Assist the resident with personal cares, which may include all or some of the following: shampooing of hair, assist with showering, rubbing with lotions, fingernail cares if instructed to do so, redirection of a confused resident, and other cares as assigned.
2. Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned.
 Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for residents.
3. Help each resident to reach and maintain the highest level of performance and independence.
4. Assist with treatments as requested by lead nurse per individualized care plan.
5. Observe client and report changes in physical and emotional condition such as change in attitude, loss of appetite, weight, etc.
6. Prepare meals as directed following special meal plans if instructed.
7. Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed. Report changes or concerns to lead nurse.
8. Attend In-service training as assigned.
9. Follows cleaning schedule per shift worked.
10. Lead resident activities as scheduled and assigned.
11. Performs other duties as required by the director or supervisor. 
LPN Duties:
1. Attend resident care conferences, help assess and update care plans.
2. Set up and give medications, including oral, topical, hypodermic, suppositories, etc.
3. Applies dressings, takes and records vital signs, gives treatments (enemas, skin and foot care, eye treatments, urine tests, oxygen, etc.) as needed.
4. Maintains records reflecting the residents’ condition, medications and treatments given.
5. Monitors the nursing assistants in their carrying out of tasks appropriately assigned to them.
6. Maintains order and cleanliness in the work area.
7. Assist in feeding, toileting, bathing and hygiene, and dressing of residents as needed.
8. Assist in making of beds and maintaining order of residents’ rooms as needed.
9. Complies with health care directives of dying residents, notifies proper personnel. Assists with care of the body after death and documentation.
10. Other duties as required. May include occasional assistance to monks or others needing immediate nursing attention.
11. Performs other duties as required by the director or supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
CNA positions:
Registered Nursing Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant credentials
LPN positions:1. Graduate of a practical nursing program which qualifies the graduate for LPN licensure in the state of Minnesota.
2. Current Minnesota LPN licensure.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation on each resident.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, residents and other employees of the organization.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check
Physical Abilities:
Ability to transfer residents with assistance.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends. Ability to participate in in-service training or staff meetings, which may be scheduled outside of usually assigned hours of work.
2. Ability to work with a variety of personalities, exercise tact and good judgment in dealing with varying and sometimes stressful situations.
3. Must understand and communicate using specialized medical terminology.
4. Must be punctual, with a good attendance record.
5. Must be mature and emotionally stable using calm and kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.
6. Promoted independence, not dependence, with residents offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
7. Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
8. Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
9. Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
10. Must work as a team member with other personnel, supervisor and RN.
11. Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
